Research has shown that women having a doula present at their childbirth had an
overwhelmingly more positive labor and delivery than women without assistance.
Some of the benefits these studies have shown are:
 | | A shorter labor
|
 | | Fewer complications
|
 | | Reduced use of forceps
|
 | | Reduced cesarean rate
|
 | | Less pain medication and epidurals are needed
|
 | | Reduced use of drugs to speed up labor |

The emotional effects of having a doula present for the birth are significant as well.
The mother and father need to be nurtured during this special time in their lives.
Studies show that the care parents receive before, during, and after the birth greatly
impacts the way they bond with their newborn child.
Studies also report that moms who have a doula present during labor have an
overwhelmingly more positive experience and report less pain both during labor and
24-hours after baby is born.
